Pramoda Devi had tears in her eyes as she held a Press conference in Mysuru palace to announce the heir to the throne. The queen of Mysuru welled up as she remembered Srikantadatta Wodeyar. 22-year-old Yaduveer Gopalraj Urs will be the next successor to the throne of Mysore Maharaja. Through Srikanta Datta Narsimharaj Wodeyar's nephew, Chaduranga Kantraj Urs had carried performed the funeral rites and rituals of the traditional Dasara celebrations, the family is said to have chosen Yaduveer after much deliberations. The adoption ceremony is expected to be held on Feb 23 and the coronation ceremony will be held in March.

Preparations have begun for the adoption ceremony, to be held on February 23 between 1.20 pm and 1.32 pm. Sringeri Mutt seer and Parakala Mutt seer will be attending the event. But Yaduveer’s coronation as the new king could take a while with the event expected to be held only in March. Pramoda Devi visited Sringeri Mutt and also called on Parakala Mutt seer and offered puja at the Srikanteshwara and Sri Chamundeshwari temples before picking Yaduveer. Yaduveer had accompanied Pramoda Devi to Srikanteshwara temple in Nanjangud on January 22 this year. Preparations are also on for the celebration of the birth anniversary of Srikantadatta Wadiyar on February 20, to be attended by dignitaries, relatives and friends. Yaduveer, studying in Boston, is expected to return on February 20. Yaduveer Gopalaraj Urs is the son of Swarup Anand Urs and Leela Tripurasundari Devi and grandson of Gayathri Devi, eldest sister of the late Srikantadatta Wadiyar. He is pursuing his graduation in economics and law at the University of Massachusetts Boston, USA.
